1 John
1 John 22 - March 26, 2025
Need for pastor-teacher vs. studying on own (1 Jn 2:27; Ps 25). Abide in the Son and glorify the Father (Jn 15:8). Face the Bema Seat with confidence (1 Jn 2:28-29).
1 John 21 - March 19, 2025
Deceptions implicit in various ministries (1 Jn 2:26; 2 Tim 2:17-18). Special revelation. Justification by Christ alone (Eph 2:8-9). Trinity (Col 2:9). Health and wealth (Phil 4:11-13). Holy Spirit teaches believers directly (1 Jn 2:27).
1 John 20 - March 12, 2025
Abiding in Christ (1 Jn 2:24; Jn 15:5). Rely on God’s promise of eternal life for hope and assurance (1 Jn 2:25; Ps 119:50).
1 John 19 - March 5, 2025
The seriousness of denying Christ (1 Jn 2:22-23; Jn 17:3). By believing in the Son, you believe in the Father (Jn 5:24; Ps 2:12).
1 John 18 - February 19, 2025
What it means to “know all things” through fellowship with the Holy Spirit (1 Jn 2:20-21).
1 John 17 - February 12, 2025
Antichrist vs. antichrists (1 Jn 2:18-19). Believers are engaged in a battle with forces that oppose God. Stand firm (Ps 1).
1 John 16 - February 5, 2025
The lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, the pride of life (1 Jn 2:16-17). As children of God, we have a better chance of responding to these triggers (Jn 6:40).
1 John 15 - January 29, 2025
Importance of abiding (1 Jn 2:14; Jn 15:5-7). Believers’ victory over evil is secure and ongoing (1 Jn 5:4-5), but we are called to oppose the cosmic system (1 Jn 2:15; Ps 1).
1 John 14 - January 22, 2025
Importance of staying in fellowship; terms of endearment reserved for believers (1 Jn 2:11-13; Ps 36:9-10). As children of God, we have the ability to walk in light and overcome darkness.
1 John 13 - January 15, 2025
Loving vs. hating your brother; abiding in light vs. walking in darkness (1 Jn 2:9-11; Gal 6:10).
1 John 12 - January 8, 2025
Walk in the light in the fellowship of his Word. Darkness is sin, ignorance, separation from God’s truth. Darkness will pass away, as God’s enduring truth advances (1 Jn 2:7-9).
1 John 11 - December 18, 2024
Imitating Christ is both a moral obligation and a privilege (1 Jn 2:6). This Christian walk produces stability (Ps 1:1-3). Old vs. new commandment (1 Jn 2:7).
1 John 10 - December 11, 2024
Discrepancy between claim and action (1 John 2:4). Regularly examine your actions to ensure they match your profession of faith. Obedience is blessed (v. 5, Ps. 119:1-3).
1 John 9 - December 4, 2024
Definition of propitiation; points from a free grace perspective; keeping God’s commandments (1 Jn 2:2-3; Ps 103:11-12). Everyone isn’t saved, but Jesus paid for the sins of all.
1 John 8 - November 13, 2024
Recovering from sin (1 Jn 2:1). We should have confidence to approach God despite our failures (Ps 103:12-14).
1 John 7 - November 6, 2024
The severity of denying our sin (1 Jn 1:10). Consistency in the Word and self-examination allows us to show ourselves approved (2 Tim 2:15; Rom 12:2).
1 John 6 - October 30, 2024
Contrasting reasons 1 John 1:9 is about fellowship rather than justification (Rom 6:6; Jn 13). Confession contradicts grace.
1 John 5 - October 16, 2024
Is it possible to stop sinning (1 Jn 1:8; Rom 7:25)? Doctrine of sin/hamartiology, positional and experiential truth. We can’t become sinless but we can sin less (Rom 5:6).
1 John 4 - October 9, 2024
Walking in light, continuous cleansing, positional sanctification (1 John 1:7; Prov 3:5-6). If God’s in the light, we should be in the light, so we can have fellowship with Him.
1 John 3 - October 2, 2024
