1 Genesis, Lessons 1-175

  • Genesis 175 - October 15, 2014

Gen 50:15-26. Knowing they had done wrong, Joseph's brothers were overcome by a guilty conscience from which they could not move past. Rather than seeking retribution, Joseph—a type of Christ—treats his brothers in grace, provides for them, and leaves matters to the Supreme Court of Heaven. God worked the brothers' evil for His good purposes. Joseph continued to remain in Egypt until his death, trusting in God's plan that in time He would cause them to leave.

  • Genesis 174 - October 1, 2014

Is climate change anthropogenic? Jacob's Burial: Gen 50:1-18. The Egyptians demonstrate their respect for Jacob by embalming and mourning for him. He is buried in the promised land by his sons. Despite the fact that Joseph has not been vengeful toward his brothers, they don't believe that he has truly forgiven them. Joseph understood that everything was going according to God's plan and purpose; his brothers, on the other hand, failed to understand the spiritual life and fearing Joseph, lied. Feeling sorry for his brothers Joseph weeps.

  • Genesis 173 - September 24, 2014

Doctrine of Grieving continued. Passages comforting the believer in times of sorrow and distress. God provides for us that we may recover and then be a comfort to others (2 Cor 1:4). With the loss of a loved one, we should not grieve as those who have no hope (1 Thess 4:13ff). There is going to be sorrow and soul pain, but God has provided the solution and the means of recovery and encouragement.

  • Genesis 172 - September 17, 2014

The May Flower voyage remembered and writings from D. Webster. Doctrine of Grieving: Gen 50:1-3. A look at Old & New Testament words for grief and sorrow (e.g. saphad, abal, and lupeo) with sample passages. Grieving and mourning are scriptural, but we must not allow the sorrow to dominate our thinking. Suffering and pain are a reminder that we live in a fallen world and need the grace of God to provide for us.

  • Genesis 171 - September 10, 2014

The Heart-Shield Bible of WW II and President Roosevelt. The Doctrine of Dying Grace. A byproduct of the faith-rest life, dying grace is a special experience of peace and tranquility at death. The time, manner and place of our death is not by chance nor accidental, but determined by God. We can relax; God has numbered our days, and our every heartbeat is in His sovereign, loving hands. Angels guard and care for the believer.

Has their identify remained?

  • Genesis 167 - August 13, 2014

Doctrine of Suicide. Is suicide a superimposition of human volition over divine volition? While there are times when it is right to take a life (e.g. capital punishment), suicide is always wrong; it is following Satan's plan, not God's. It is the pinnacle of preoccupation with self and arrogance taken to the extreme. Suicide prevention begins by safe guarding your own soul. After the fall, life is not without despair, but we must not lose heart.

  • Genesis 166 - August 6, 2014

Current events: climate change, ISIS, and Israel. Gen 49:22. Joseph, firstborn to Jacob and Rachel, receives the double blessing. Tired of waiting on the Lord, Rachel attempts to solve her barrenness through a surrogate (Gen 30). God opens her womb on His time schedule, not hers. Issachar is pictured as a labor force, one day to be domineered by the Canaanites & Assyrians. Dan, born to Bilhah, has a tribal history revealing both wonderful achievements (i.e. Oholiab) and gross disobedience (i.e. Samson).

  • Genesis 161 - June 25, 2014

Gen 49:5-12. Jacob's Last Will & Testament continued. Though Simeon and Levi's failure resulted in a prophecy of tribal scatterings, God provided opportunity for recovery; and the Levites, due their obedience (Ex 32), became the nation's priests.
